History
The Somali Integration Society (SIS) was set up in 2002 following a consultation
exercise with the local Somali population in Cardiff. SIS is unique in its
all Wales remit to support the Somali community (of which a significant proportion
comprises refugees fleeing civil war in Somalia) to increase its integration
into mainstream society in Wales.
SIS exists to enable Somalis in Wales to be fully equipped with the life-skills,
confidence, and information which will enable them and their families and
friends to better access the key services and entitlements to improve their
health, education and employment prospects, as well as the safety of their
community.

Objective
Founded in 2002 the Somali Integration Society (SIS) is an essential link between national, regional and local problem solving. Its primary role is to identify and propose solutions to the issues that Somalis in Wales face in the following key fields : Employment and Training Health Education Culture As a part of work we hold seminars in which issues facing the Somali community are the theme. We also work in partnership with key agencies from the statutory and voluntary sectors to improve integration. We support volunteers to help their community, also contribute considerably to their own career development.
